We've been here for a full week now and a pretty large percentage of our stuff is actually unpacked. Kerstin is slowly adapting to the creepiness of living above a funeral home and we're starting to figure things out. So far we know how to get to Wal-Mart & Home Depot; so we're off to a good start.
Douglas is a small town, surrounded by a bunch of other small towns, between 2 big towns and near one big city. There's one flashing light in Douglas, so if you're from south Georgia you can probably relate. Douglas has a few restaurants: 3 pizza places, 1 Italian place, 2 doughnut (or donut since Dunkin Donuts rules New England) shops and 1 diner/bar. On a tragic note, this whole region loves donuts and yet the closest Krispy Kreme is 43 miles away. Not sure how they've lived without the hot donuts now sign.
So far everyone was been super nice - and have made is feel very welcomed. On our first Sunday, there was a church-wide picnic/cookout and someone made a cake that said "Welcome TJ & family". How sweet! Of course, all the church ladies wanted to hold Ellie, so we periodically had to ask someone where our baby was. At one point she fell asleep in someone's arms so we put her in the stroller to nap. It was nice.
We'll post more soon, now that the dust has settled a little. Below is a oicture of our new place - we live in the top 2 floors.
